Surgery Expectations
- Anesthesia services are provided by highly qualified professionals.
- If anesthesia is required, your anesthesia provider will perform a pre-anesthesia assessment and answer any questions you may have at the bedside.
- Make sure to discuss with your anesthesiologist any medications you are currently taking, even over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
- The type of anesthesia will be determined in consultation with your surgeon
After Surgery
RECOVERY:
- Immediately following surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored by our professionally trained staff
- The amount of time you spend in recovery depends upon the type of surgery and anesthesia you received.
- You will not be permitted to leave the center alone or drive yourself home. You must be accompanied by an adult responsible for your well-being. (Bus, taxi, Uber, or Lyft are not acceptable options.)
- If you received general anesthesia or sedation, it is important that you not drive or drink alcohol for 24 hours following surgery.
FAMILY:
- Have one adult family member or friend accompany you to the facility.
- Please be advised that children may not be left unattended or enter the recovery area.
DISCHARGE:
- Be sure you understand your physician’s instructions.
- The nurses will instruct you about medication, diet, and rest requirements.
- After surgery and at the time of discharge you may feel sleepy, tired, and dizzy.
- It is natural to experience some discomfort or minor pain in the area of your surgery at the time of discharge.
HOME NEEDS:
- Please arrange for a responsible adult to remain with you for 24-hours after surgery.
- A nurse will contact you within 24-72 hours after discharge to evaluate your progress and answer any questions you may have.
- If you experience difficulties or complications once you return home, please call your surgeon immediately.
- If you cannot reach your surgeon or the doctor on call, please proceed to the nearest emergency room.
Tips for a Successful Recovery:
Take it easy until your physician says you can resume normal activity.
Follow instructions for diet, rest, and medication.
